James Harrell
James Harrell is known for his career as a linebacker, playing nine seasons in the NFL. He played college football for the University of Florida, and went on to play professionally for the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs.
Most recently, he has coached at Kentucky Christian University and is the Florida Chapter President of the NFLPA, an organization dedicated to protecting the welfare of NFL players and helping them transition from their post-career lives.
As someone who wears hearing aids himself, James recognizes the importance of celebrating those with hearing loss for their accomplishments and unique abilities. This became apparent during a game against Georgia Tech when he realized that his ability to lip-read made him more aware of things such as when his opponents were going to fake a pass.
James is proud of his hearing aids and he loves the advanced technology that today’s devices offer. He says it’s important to him that he wears hearing aids that can endure his active lifestyle.
In March 2018, James took on his role as a HearStrong Ambassador and helped the organization honor Mitchell Dolinar, a student athlete and humanitarian, as a Champion. HearStrong is proud to have advocates such as James Harrell to spread awareness and shatter stigmas surrounding hearing loss.
